I'm about to leave for the boundary waters, five days of paddling through moose infested waters. Wish me luck. I think I'm all ready, I just have to work for 5 hours first, then I'm off for the 7 hour drive north almost to Canada. Brother John and I are going to have quite a trip.

Brew Fest at the Bluff Country Artist Gallery. I was a judge of wine, so I had some hard work to do. There were about the same number of beers as well. The judges (Abe and I) ended up choosing the same wine as the popular vote, so I feel we didn't make a mistake. We had many of them come over after to our backyard for leftover wine and cheese from the fest around a campfire and the Airstream. I gave a few tours of the house, and Jacob, Laurel and James stayed overnight. Earlier in the day, we held a quiche breakfast for Gunnar and Trond and Lee's gang. They brought some lovely muffins and fruit, and we had breakfast in the sun around the airstream.

After breakfast at the PHATTEST BREAKFAST in Fat Pat's, a garbage haul from the barn to the dump, and cleaning the YOOH building, Rachel, Jen and I loaded up our kayaks on and in the Outback to go to Kendelville Iowa for kayaking the Upper Iowa for 16.5 miles. It was about 3pm when we got started, and though we made it to our destination before darkness, by the time they'd gone to collect our Subaru and we started loading the kayak, it was dark enough to need a flashlight to tie straps down to the underside of the car. The Oru performed very well for Rachel, she was usually in the lead. I was in my Eddyline Calypso sea kayak, and scraped along the hull a few times. Fitting all of them in one vehicle was very helpful for getting on the water faster.
