You Can't Have Me

You know you can't have me

I was told

when you turned

some years old.

Always knew you couldn't have me

its just

you're not

something that I've got.

I'm cheaper than you think

but you can't afford me

with my love

as soft as gold.

That's assuming you

might want me

though I am owned

in these

second-hand clothes.

Never need

to free me

because I ain't

yours to give.

I know we can't

have it all unless

you stay as long

as you can live.

Though my heart

won't let you go, this hand

has always

followed your command.

my mind

doesn't realize

that my eyes have

seen a promise land.
